Lore:

Ingeborg i Råcksta (fl. 1590s)

The Herb Woman of Råcksta

Ingeborg lived in the forests near Råcksta, not far from Stockholm, at the turn of the seventeenth century. People came to her for help when the midwives failed and the priests could not heal. She was an herbalist known for her salves, and for being very good and reading and writing. When questioned about it, she claimed a black dog taught her.

When illness swept through the village, some were cured by her medicines, but others were not, and people turned against her. They said she had boiled the bones of animals under the moon, that she made ointments to call spirits and charm the weather. Ingeborg told the court she worked only with God’s herbs, but she was seen as a witch.

She was tried for sorcery in the late 1590s but was acquitted, possibly because her husband was a judge. Her name vanished from the records soon after.

Care:

This doll is in excellent condition but she does have fragile porcelain parts and is for display not play. Do not get her or her clothing wet, and keep out of direct sunlight.
