Märet Couture Witch Doll
Märet is a one-of-a-kind witch doll created from vintage 1970’s era “German low brow” style bisque ceramic doll with tea-dyed soft body. Underskirt is hand dyed and painted, as are the pantaloons. Apron is hand-dyed and hand-sewn from a vintage textile. Her head, arms and lower legs are ceramic. Her body features hand painted tattoos of hearts and moons.
She is adorned with a rhinestone necklace and a vintage lace collar. On her chest is an antique Victorian cut steel rosette brooch.
She measures 20” in length.
Märet comes with a felt witch hat tied on with silk ribbon and features velvet trim and a brass chain that matches her bracelet, and her antique gold brocade medicine bag of magical and poisonous plants. Her bag has its own bag charm and both can be worn or carried as your own little bag charms for protection.
Please note that some of these these plants, while generally safe to handle for short periods of time (though it’s always safest to wear gloves), can cause serious harm and can even be deadly if ingested. Keep away from children and pets. Poisonous plants can be removed by request, and they do come inside their own little dyed pouch.
Here is a listing of what is included in her portable apothecary (all grown organically by me) and their properties:
Protection & Banishing
Angelica (Angelica archangelica)
Mugworts (Artemisia vulgaris, ludoviciana, californica, annua, scoparia)

Care & Notes:
History:
Märet Jonsdotter (1644 – September 1672) was a farm worker and an alleged Swedish witch. She is one of the best known victims of the great witch hysteria called det stora oväsendet ("The Great Noise"), spanning 1668–1676. Märet was the first to be accused, and her trial unleashed a series of witch hunts that led to the deaths of around 280 people. Despite not being any kind of healer or herbalist, she did use salt as magic on her cows and was accused of animal witchcraft (flying on a calf to the Witches’ sabbath), using ointment from the Devil to fly, that she kept a small grey creature like a trollkatt, walking on water and taking children to Blåkulla Mountain, kissing the Devil’s backside, signing his book, and receiving a new name “Märet the Devil’s Maiden.” She was found guilty and sentenced to execution by beheading, but was not executed and died in prison in her late 20’s. Lineage:
Plants are grown by me and are incorporated in accordance with my own ancestral traditions, especially from the documents in the Svartkonstböcker: A Compendium of the Swedish Black Art Book Tradition. However, most of these plants had ritual and magical uses across Old Europe and beyond. Feel free to add herbs, stones, talismans, etc. of your own.
Care:
This doll is in excellent condition but she does have fragile, ceramic parts and is for display not play. Do not get her or her clothing wet, and keep out of direct sunlight.
